Exercise… in the morning. A fascinating conference on Hawaiian sign language. Writing my blog. And then I move on to writing the next part of my autobiography, page after page, like a thread I continue to unwind. I return to my little rituals. This is the moment… And then there is this small victory: the orange juicer is working again. A minor detail for some… but for me, a genuine pleasure. The taste of freshly squeezed oranges in the morning is one of my simple luxuries, something that keeps me grounded. And then, almost as if by magic, towards the end of the morning, a message is slipped under my door. I see the envelope with “MSC” written on it. For a second, I think it is an official message from MSC Cruises. Some information, perhaps. But no. Inside, there is a note. A note from a woman who has read my book. And loved it. I read the letter once. Then twice.

The words seem to dance slightly before my eyes. How can I describe what I am feeling? It is not pride. Nor is it simply joy. It is something deeper. Like a silent validation. As though all those hours spent writing, doubting, revealing myself, suddenly take on an immense meaning. Someone, somewhere, has been touched. Someone has received what I dared to put down on paper. I feel moved. Grateful. A little vulnerable too. Because writing means revealing yourself. And knowing that my words have resonated in the heart of a complete stranger… that is an incredible gift. At that precise moment, in the middle of the ocean, I realise that sometimes words travel even farther than ships.

The evening continues with a Hawaiian dinner prepared by the chef, Chiro Sempre, at the buffet on Deck 13: Lomi Lomi Salmon, raw salmon mixed with tomatoes, onions and sometimes chilli. Very fresh, almost refreshing. It is often served as a side dish. Then comes Huli Huli Chicken, grilled chicken marinated in a sweet and savoury sauce made with soy sauce, pineapple and brown sugar. Caramelised on the outside, juicy on the inside. Then Garlic Shrimp, prawns generously sautéed with garlic and butter, often served with rice. Simple, fragrant and delicious. And to finish it all off, cherry ice cream. Then a quick visit to the amphitheatre, where I join Michel… for the show: a Hawaiian singer performing the beautiful Hawaiian ballad “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”… the perfect way to end the evening on cloud nine.

On this beautiful 13 February, I do not know whether the Hawaiian songs are to blame, but I wake up at 8:30 a.m. I hate that. I have always been this way; it throws off my entire schedule for the day. A quick breakfast, where I run into Bob, smiling:

— Did you see Claire’s message? She managed to get hold of your autobiography on Deck 7. She’s so happy, especially since she wanted so much to know more…

— No, I reply. I’ll send her a message right away.

Then I head to Massimo’s conference. The subject: our next Polynesian islands, Pago Pago and Apia. And there is a wonderful surprise in store: a dance performed on stage by Samoans who work hard aboard the ship. I am delighted. Then the day continues… a windy sunbathing session… dinner with Bob and Claire, who, having read the first few chapters of my book, asks me quite a few questions. I am happy to answer them; at least it shows how interested she is… Then I end the evening watching a troupe from Naples. What incredible energy on stage, what joy, what applause… It is with a light heart that I make my way back up to my cabin.

14 February… Valentine’s Day on Board?

For Valentine’s Day, I had decided to treat myself to breakfast in my cabin… a first for me. Even though the waiter arrives exactly on time, punctual and impeccable, I am a little disappointed by the tray. It does not really tempt me. The young waiter, very polite, gives me a big smile as he gently closes the door… but once I am alone, the magic fades. Where are the flowers? The colours? That little romantic touch I had imagined? Instead: one sad little bread roll, a tiny portion of butter, a small spoonful of honey… Orange juice that is not freshly squeezed, and not even an espresso. For Valentine’s Day morning, I had dreamed of waking up to something sparkling, fragrant, almost theatrical. I am disappointed… I cannot wait for my freshly squeezed orange juice on Deck 13, the one that sparkles in the sunshine and actually tastes like a holiday. As soon as I step out of my cabin, it is a true festival of red hearts everywhere around the ship. The entire staff is in Valentine’s Day mode, with that gentle, festive energy that fills the air when love is being celebrated.

When I reach the bar on Deck 5 for my espresso, I walk past a huge romantic frame. Intrigued, I ask my friend at the bar, Rossana Yaba, what it is for.

“It’s for the vow renewal ceremony, officiated by the ship’s captain, Pietro Sarcinella.”

“WOW… MSC Cruises has really gone all out!”

After taking a few photos, I head to Massimo’s conference, where Love with a capital L—is the theme of the day. He tells us: “Let’s forget Carmen, which did not end particularly well, and turn instead to extraordinary love stories, the kind that make you dream…” He speaks to us about Love with a capital L. He evokes those loves that, despite every hardship, choose the light. Like in L’elisir d’amore, where Nemorino, with his innocence and perseverance, eventually wins Adina’s heart. Like in Il barbiere di Siviglia, where Rosina and Count Almaviva overcome every obstacle to finally be united. And then there is The Magic Flute, where Tamino and Pamina endure a series of trials before reaching wisdom and true love together. Tonight, he tells us, the opera will be a celebration of those stories. Not the ones that break us, but the ones that lift us up. The ones that make us believe that, despite the storms, love always finds its way. So yes… I am completely on board. Because those stories speak to me. Because they awaken something deep inside me, like a melody we thought we had forgotten… only for it to return, perfectly intact. And that is exactly what happens. For me… “the cat” comes back into my thoughts as though I had never left him behind. Like something obvious. Like a familiar breath finding its place again. The conference ends on a high note with “Hymne à l’amour”, Édith Piaf’s legendary song, performed by Céline Dion. The very first notes are enough to make time stand still. Her voice rises, powerful and fragile at the same time, and the words resonate differently after a morning devoted entirely to love. “God reunites those who love one another…” There could have been no better way to end it. It is intense, moving, almost unreal. One of those moments when everything seems perfectly aligned the sea, the music, the hearts. And I remain there, deeply moved, with this gentle certainty: when love is sung like this, it becomes eternal. This morning, knowing that I will be dancing for part of the night… no exercise. Probably the wiser choice. And besides, I feel like making myself beautiful, so I end the morning with a visit to the hairdresser not to make myself more beautiful for the evening, but above all to feel good about myself.

Ah, a message from Anya, my friend from Montpellier, confirming that, just like the previous year, she has organised a dinner for singles to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I have always hated this celebration. To me, it has always felt far too commercial, too “overdone”. But this would be a very different kind of Valentine’s Day evening, and I was looking forward to seeing my single friends again almost all of them French. Around the table, many different cities were represented: Perpignan, Rouen, Montpellier, Marmande, Sanary… with the exception of Michel, who came from Casablanca, and Michelle, who had come all the way from Quebec. We had barely sat down when we were already being criticised: apparently, we were talking too loudly… As usual, Thierry, from Rouen, wanted everyone to stand up for a toast. We did, of course, but a little more discreetly. That’s just the way it is… The atmosphere was typically French, warm in its own way, even though the table decorations were rather formal: an immaculate white tablecloth, with red and gold hearts delicately arranged across it… Every detail had been carefully thought out. And yet, the atmosphere was not really there. Probably because we did not know each other very well, and perhaps did not have that much in common. The subject we talked about most was crossing the Equator, which would take place the following day. We had so many wonderful memories of it.

It only took a few words to see the stars appear in the eyes of the 2026 cruise passengers. As I look through the menu, I cannot help comparing it with the one from 2025, which had seemed far more prestigious to me. I can still remember the baked oysters, the salmon puff pastry with asparagus… This year, I am left feeling a little underwhelmed. I simply choose two starters: duck breast and asparagus terrine. I tell myself I will make up for it with dessert… but once again, disappointment: a simple vanilla cream covered in caramel. Like me, many people are hoping to console themselves with the famous chocolate buffet on Deck 13. After taking a few photos, we all make our way up to Deck 13… but there is another surprise waiting for us: the dance floor is wet, and a fine rain is gently falling. I think about my hair, then my 8 cm heels there is no way I am going to risk slipping while dancing! I take the time to admire the magnificent chocolate buffet, specially prepared by the Food and Beverage Manager’s team, but in the end, I decide to give it a miss. I quietly return to my cabin, holding the little chocolate heart offered by MSC Cruises. A Valentine’s Day that was somewhat bittersweet… but still touched by a little sweetness.

15 February 2026 – Crossing the Equator.

After a visit to the gym, I decide to go for a walk on deck, delighted that there is not too much wind. The air is mild, almost welcoming. And yet, there is already a strange sense of excitement in the air, as though the ship itself were holding its breath. How could I forget 2025? I can still picture myself then: bright paint covering my face, a necklace of fragrant flowers around my neck, a Tahitian skirt swaying in the breeze. Then came that unforgettable initiation ritual: ice-cold water, flour flying through the air, crushed tomatoes… and, to finish it all off, chocolate dripping through my hair, sweet and sticky, like a signature. And that encounter with King Neptune himself Neptune, god of fresh waters and springs, protector of fishermen, boatmen and horses… How could I forget having to kiss a giant octopus to receive my baptism? It felt like a pool party in Ibiza, mythological style. That moment has remained engraved in my memory: vibrant, exuberant, almost unreal. A timeless interlude. So naturally… I was expecting the same madness. At 11:15 a.m., most of the cruise passengers are already on deck, ready for the Equator-crossing ceremony. Myself included. The excitement is building, palpable, electric. Eyes are sparkling, phones are ready, laughter fills the air. But nothing happens as expected. No paint on our faces. No flower necklaces. No Tahitian skirts. Music, yes. Plenty of music.

A Neapolitan band I had seen the day before, lively and full of sunshine. And suddenly, an enormous burst of soap bubbles rises into the sky, light as promises. They catch the light, shimmer with rainbow colours, then gently burst. Nothing around the swimming pool. The atmosphere is certainly there, but it is different. More restrained. More controlled. Another way of celebrating the crossing of the Equator. Perhaps 2025 had simply cost too much… And in the end, what does it matter? Because I had fun. Really. I forgot about the eyes fixed on me probably because of my sexy swimsuit but I own it. I sang, shouted and danced like crazy on the dance floor. The bubbles burst around me like peals of laughter, the music vibrated through my chest, and the deck echoed with contagious joy. That was what mattered most: feeling alive. I was delighted that Michel was there to capture the moment. His presence gave the experience another dimension, as though everything became more real through his eyes and his camera. He captures the images, but I capture the emotion. We take the opportunity to have lunch together something quite rare, as our schedules are usually out of sync. When I have lunch, he is often having breakfast. This simple meal together had a special flavour. Not being alone.

Sharing a table, exchanging a few confidences, laughing over some insignificant little detail… it changes everything. Then, once again, sunbathing… and my blog. Writing so that I forget nothing. Writing to make the magic last a little longer. In the evening, after dinner with my favourite Canadians, where the jokes keep flying with their deliciously sharp sense of humour, I attend the “Starlight” show. Alone, as I often am. Most women are afraid of me… but I own it. It was magnificent. Red and black costumes with a delightfully unconventional style. Performances inspired by Fred Astaire, American crooners with smooth, velvety voices… A glamorous, sparkling, almost Hollywood-like atmosphere. I loved it.

Then, the show performed by the Samoans working aboard the Magnifica was not scheduled until 10:30 p.m. I decide to return quietly to my cabin to put on a “pareo”, respecting the requested dress code for the performance. I choose the same one as last year. Why make life complicated? I already knew that many people would not make the effort and that was indeed the case. Just like last year. But it does not matter. I own it. Always. The evening was absolutely exceptional, filled with emotion and moments of sharing. What incredible applause when MSC’s Samoan team took to the stage to give us an absolutely superb performance! Their energy, their talent, and all the hard work they had put into preparing this show truly deserved to be celebrated. They created a powerful, authentic and vibrant moment. A huge congratulations to them for this incredible show. The evening continued with a magnificent ice cream buffet, accompanied by delicious warm brioche. A real treat, as beautiful as it was delicious. The flavours mingled, the laughter continued, and the night seemed as though it never wanted to end. Just like the previous year, shortly before returning to my cabin, I was lucky enough to meet the ship’s captain for a souvenir photo. A beautiful moment, simple and precious, like a signature at the end of a radiant day. And as I made my way back to my cabin, my heart light, I thought to myself that magic is not always found in excess. Sometimes, it hides inside a soap bubble, a burst of laughter, or a knowing glance.

On this beautiful 16 February, the Daily Program that MSC slips under my door every evening displays this quote: “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” A beautiful thought. Inspiring. Almost poetic. But if I am honest… it is not exactly how I have felt since the beginning of this cruise. I feel more like a solitary wave than a drop merging into the whole. Present, intense, sometimes observed… but never diluted into the crowd. Perhaps I carry the ocean within me rather than searching for it around me. And then I look up: tonight’s recommended dress code is elegant. Gala evening. Fantastic. I will be able to wear a creation by a renowned designer. An outfit that certainly does not leave anyone indifferent.

And, as an added gift, I meet Michel at Massimo’s conference, where he confirms that he will indeed be having dinner with me tonight. I smile and clap my hands to show my delight. A few people give me a discreet “Shhh!” to be fair, the morning’s subject is a serious one: the International Date Line. A fascinating, almost philosophical topic… crossing an invisible line and changing the day, almost as though changing your life. I am bursting with energy. Yet my calves remind me that I danced a little too much yesterday. So I decide to take it easy, settle down in the sun, and let the warmth gently caress my skin and soothe my muscles. And then, a message from @canal83. The competition question from the previous stage was a success. We have a winner for the jewellery set. I am delighted. Now I need to film a video to announce the news. Time to change out of my swimsuit. I slip into a beautiful white dress scattered with flowers, slightly sheer. It catches the light and floats around me like a breeze. Perfect for filming beneath this dazzling sky.

From the looks I receive as I walk past, I realise that this may not be the ideal outfit to win their approval. But I own it. I own my choice of dress. I own the transparency. I own the light. Especially since it is raining in France. Here, the sun is shining, the sea is sparkling, and I refuse to dress in grey simply to reassure those who do not dare to embrace colour. Perhaps the Daily Program is right after all. Individually, we are one drop. A quick call from reception to check that everything is all right. I was not expecting it… There is still the issue of the noise I hear around 5:30 a.m., when the MSC staff begin working in the kitchen just above my cabin. But I can cope with it, so I say nothing. Since tonight is gala night, I start getting ready a little earlier. And then I am having dinner with Michel, as I do at every gala… so… Dare or don’t dare?

Tonight, the deck gives way to the lights of the gala. I trade the salty wind for the murmur of hushed conversations. I am wearing a slightly unconventional dress, subtly low-cut and completely embraced. It is my choice. A free silhouette, a confident stride. Designed by Fabrice Zaady Sullyvan, it moves with me like a sail catching the wind. A blend of boldness and elegance, character and grace. Sailing teaches me freedom. Tonight, I wear it. Never mind the unkind looks. When I join Michel at the amphitheatre for the show, I embrace it all the more as I take a seat in the front row. Yes, the front row. I recognise the singer: it is @Ewin, the Samoan singer I like so much. I am delighted. The show is wonderful. Beyond his voice and his songs, he lights up the stage… and me along with it. Pure happiness. At the end, I even take the opportunity to capture the moment with a photo.

Then Michel suggests having a drink at the bar on Deck 5 to celebrate the occasion. I happily agree. It will be my first prosecco since the beginning of this cruise. Two women join us, acquaintances of Michel’s who have lived in Morocco. One of them is rather cold towards me. The other is much friendlier. Well… Michel apologises for the first one as soon as they leave. Then it is time to head to L’Edera restaurant, where we had reserved a table. The maître d’ recognises us. He is absolutely lovely. As I take my seat at the table, I hear a woman’s voice behind me: “Oh no, not her.” Crazy, isn’t it? But I am not going to let that spoil my dinner. In fact, everything goes very well, even though I still feel that the quality of the food has declined. I choose salmon, a vegetarian patty and a sour cherry cream for dessert… Meh. Michel suggests going to another show, but I decline. Wait another hour? No. Not tonight. As I make my way back up, I come across a member of the MSC staff. I recognise her: she was already here in 2025. She asks me if everything is all right. I tell her yes… apart from the noise at 5:30 a.m., but I have learned to live with it. She insists on taking my cabin number and tells me: “You need to tell us. You are a guest.” At that moment, I had no idea that I was about to endure another terrible night, just like the one I had around three weeks earlier. At 2:25 a.m., I start hearing rolling trolleys above me, repeatedly, through the ceiling. It simply does not stop. I call reception three times. An hour later, someone finally comes to check… then leaves, telling me: “I’ll take care of it.” Unfortunately, nothing is done. The noise continues. Exhausted, I eventually manage to fall asleep at around 5:00 a.m.

12 to 16 February 2026 – At Sea Then life gently resumes its course aboard the MSC Magnifica.
